i can’t stress how important it is that yesterday’s elections be taken as a victory. we didn’t take the senate, but realistically we never were. the dems taking the senate AND the house was an unrealistic best case scenario.
the dems taking the house is extremely important because it shows the power of the voters. trump now officially has a group of people in the government that represents the popular vote that is staunchly opposed to him. democrats have a long history of being ineffective losers, but they seem fired up and ready to go now.
the wall isn’t happening. mueller’s investigation is safe. house democrats have already promised to have televised hearings with Mueller if Trump tries to fire him. more investigations will be launched. trump won’t be able to do anything without 20 layers of scrutiny being slapped on him
and hey, i encourage you to look at the election numbers, too. even in places where the dems lost, the support was insane. the governor’s election in georgia was so close that stacy abrams hasn’t conceded the race yet. the difference in votes is less than ten thousand. they’re hoping it’s close enough for a runoff.
in GEORGIA.
georgia, the buckle of the bible belt, almost elected a democrat as governor. less than a ten thousand vote difference. so close there might be a do-over. do you all know how amazing that is?
we didn’t have a total, sweeping victory, but that’s not what we were expecting. it would have been nice to take both houses of congress, but we accomplished what we needed to.
so if you’re younger, or from another country, or otherwise just aren’t familiar with american politics, and you’re seeing headlines that say DEMS LOSE SENATE, don’t freak out. we won what we were supposed to. we won the house, the thing that can actually stop trump.
we’re back to an obama era gridlock where nothing can get done on the president’s part. for the next two years, the headlines will be “Trump tried to…” instead of “Trump just…”
don’t give up hope, keep fighting, vote, protest, stay active, keep up to date with the news, do whatever you can to continue to contribute. it’s working.
Seeing John Mulaney do his ‘Robot Test’ bit has given me a strong desire to see him play a live action Riddler.
But not like, as any character other than John Mulaney? Like, let’s make a John Mulaney version of Edward Nigma. Just this socially awkward disaster man who somehow becomes a supervillain because of a misunderstanding he couldn’t correct without ‘seeming rude’. And now supposedly he’s committed to killing Batman but he doesn’t actually want to be the cause of a man’s death so he just obfuscates things with ‘clues’ and ‘riddles’ and ‘battles of wits’ until Batman inevitably defeats him and he’s just like ‘oh thank god please don’t hit me’.
Batman’s like ‘you need help Nigma’ and he’s just like ‘yeah that’s fair, I should probably look into seeing somebody at this point, I became a supervillain because of social anxiety and that might just be a red flag you know?’
“Hey, Batman, think you’ve seen everything, huh? Well, figure out how to deal with this! You know Gotham General Hospital? Yeah? Well you’ll never guess what I let loose in there!”
“Riddle me this, what has four hooves and presents a massive health and safety violation?”
“I see you there, Batman. And I also don’t want me to be doing what I’m doing.”
