when christian artists change the line in hallelujah from “maybe there’s a God above” to “I know that there’s a God above” >:c

#idk why i’m so unreasonably angry#maybe cuz it’s my fav line

it’s also because Leonard COHEN (!) was Jewish and this is a quintessentially Jewish line, and changing it to that level of Annoying Certainty is stripping it of its Jewish meaning and imbuing it with that particularly American smug evangelical Christian attitude that makes me tired, so very tired

THAT IS EXACTLY WHY

I don’t think I’ve heard any cover artist sing my favorite verses

You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

um woah

That last verse… like the only one the two Cohen recordings have in common… are SO ESSENTIAL to the song, yet not one cover I’ve heard ever includes it. It’s a travesty.

I’ve never heard a good cover version of Hallelujah.  You just hands down cannot beat Cohen singing it.

I won’t insist that he’s in the same league as Leonard Cohen and due to the whole state funeral situation the sound quality is not perfect, but this is the only cover version I’ve ever heard that includes that last verse, so props to Steven Page for that.

…oh hey Steven Page is Jewish, how about that.

My gf: mimes are to clowns as dogs are to wolves
Me, trembling: what

Mimes are a domesticated version of wild clowns. The retain many juvenile characteristics, and are usually smaller and friendlier to humans than clowns. Since clowns are more aggressive than mimes they should not be kept as domestic pets. Clown-mime hybrids can sometimes be kept as pets but are not recommended for first time mime owners, or for families with small children.
