As a longtime Tolkien fan it’s always nice to see people rediscovering exactly why the hobbits were so good at resisting Sauron’s powers.
Their simple, good-natured, honestly sometimes stupid lives meant that there was very little you could offer them that could turn their hearts. They held no great ambitions and their biggest goal was to live happy lives, making them absurdly difficult to corrupt (Bilbo kept the ring for literal decades and could give it up with a little convincing, Frodo wore it on his person for an entire year when great men like Boromir grew mad after just being around it.)
This is why Gandalf loved and protected them when the wizards came to Middle Earth. He noticed all the great powers passed them by because they were small and insignificant, so much so that there aren’t even any records that explain where they came from because nobody ever bothered to notice them.
That’s why they were Gandalf’s ace in the hole in his fight against evil. Bilbo finding the One Ring and barely feeling anything was probably all the confirmation Gandalf needed that hobbits were absolutely necessary to take down Sauron.
P.S – It also contrasts how Sauron’s master, Melkor, was permanently defeated. While Melkor was taken down by the combined might of all the greatest powers in Middle Earth and the heavens, Sauron proved to be more dangerous because he could turn your might against you with his ability to corrupt all greatness (he destroyed the most powerful nation in all of Middle Earth, Numenor, by turning them against Illuvatar, or God), and one needed a soul steeped in humility and simple wishes in order to fight his brand of magic.
-“OH, WHAT, ARE U #TRIGGERED???, LIFE ISNT UR #SAFE SPACE LMAO”
Stay away from children for the rest of your lives please
The people who hate this are probably the ones traumatizing their children
this is a show for 3 – 6 year olds what is WRONG with these monsters???
Fun fact, sesame street was created to fill the gap in education for children whose families could not afford to send them to preschool. Sesame street taught basic math and phonics as well as interpersonal skills so that children below the poverty line weren’t starting elementary school behind their more privileged classmates.
Here sesame street is trying to fill a gap where supportive adults should be. Where there should be a teacher or a family member or a counselor to help, for whatever reason, there isn’t, so Sesame Street is stepping in.
This breed of person has always hated Sesame Street. They hated it for showing black and white children playing together. They hated it for giving children of color the head start that rich white families were paying for. They hated it for Bert and Ernie for showing two MEN who LIVED TOGETHER, for the married black nurse who lived on sesame street when it was first released, and for them explaining death. I feel like there was a pregnancy at some point in its early days and they would have REALLY hated that.
These days they don’t (usually) say “I’m not letting my kid watch anything with black kids in it” but they sure throw a tantrum in the youtube comments when Sesame Street DARES to show an autistic girl playing with non-autistic children and being treated like shes anyone else. They lose their shit when Sesame Street has to explain incarceration to 5 year olds. And the muppet in south africa with HIV? Hoo boy.
They hate everything Sesame Street stands for and tries to provide. They always have. We just have to ignore them and keep supporting the show. Or tell them to shut the fuck up and keep supporting the show. Either way Sesame Street will outlive them.
[Just for clarity let me disclaim that this almost a year old now but I don’t care I’m reblogging bc how disgusting of a human do you have to be to oppose this?!?]
There are otherwise logical people that will defend child abuse to the death, because it’s much easier to practice mental gymnastics than face the potential problems in their own upbringing—demanding early childhood “strength” and “independence” like this is a gross fuckin side effect
hey so can we not make fun of this autisticperson? please? i know the video might be a little silly but i see a lot of non-autistic people reblog posts, images, and videos blatantly made by autistic people (and you can do a google search, you know. sometimes people will mention that they are autistic) and go “haha cringe!!!!!!” and then right after reblog a post about how autistic people deserve to be treated like people. so please practice what you preach because autistic people like myself have to watch non-autistic folks make fun of us when they claim to be on our side.
