I hope Sirius constantly turned into a dog to get out of arguments with James, because it would mean that James was left with the following options:

  • Being known as the crazy man who is arguing with a dog
  • Rough-housing, and being known as the man who is mean to dogs
  • Submitting to Sirius’s literal puppy-dog eyes, and losing almost every argument they have from the age of 15 onward

The fourth option is to turn into a deer and continue the argument.

the asl sign for “transgender“ is basically the same as the sign for ”beautiful“ but signed at the chest instead of in front of the face.

so that’s cool.

this is my imperfect not-a-fluent-signer understanding but:

(based on a presentation by a deaf trans guy i was at in 2005 where he was promoting that sign)

it seems like that sign was invented and implemented by trans people over the last 10-ish years. before that the predominant vocabulary was “sex change” and then some deaf trans people were like “yo fuck that” and came up with the current sign, which starts off with the sign for “myself,” then motion that indicates both change and coming together, and ends with the closed hand held against the sternum.

and in the process it also mimics the sign for “beautiful”

and because of spatial grammar, things closer to the front of your body in ASL are generally more vital, more emphatic, more immediate, more present.

so it’s actually a case where the word coherently indicates “beauty” and “self transformation” and contains hints of the complete thought of “my self transforming, through a coming together of disparate factors, into something more real, immediate, and vital than I was before.”

so yeah. that’s just fuckin’ awesome.

and that’s just the way to express that concept now.

Thats really beautiful

normalize polyamorous people having families and raising children together. destroy the idea that the nuclear family is the default, that it’s the best option for everyone, that it’s the only option that “counts” and that any other kind of family is automatically unhealthy and ‘bad’.

They broke him. They broke that baby’s spirit. 😢

What’s sad about this is the government isn’t taking into account what these families go through! It might’ve only been 2 months but he is physically disengaged with his dad, does not know what is happening, why it’s happening, and he’ll be stuck with those feelings/memories forever!

Shits so fucked man. That poor baby. I’m literally sick.

I want everyone to read this:

The last names Che, Pop and Coc are indigenous and these people are indigenous to the Americas. FUCK your nation states and borders. They have every right to move across this continent. The colonists have been pulling this bullshit on indigenous people for more than half a millennia already. Enough. This broken child they finally returned to his dad? The last in a long long line, victim of just the latest administration.

I believe (though I may be conflating this with yet another story, so if anybody has a source to verify, that would be great) that Encarnación Bail Romero—the woman whose son, Carlos, was also taken from her and adopted out to a white family—was also indigenous, and primarily spoke a dialect that was a blend of Spanish and a Native indigenous language to Guatemala, which hampered her ability to get translation services and advocacy.

This is what I mean when I say this isn’t a new or inherently “unAmerican” brand of oppression. It’s a continuation of what America has always done to indigenous peoples.
