If racial slurs just happen to “slip out” when you’re frustrated or angry, it just means that you’re okay with that language internally and the only reason you don’t use it more often is because you’re more concerned about yourself appearing racist than about your attitudes towards others.

That last tweet is very telling. “We all swear when we’re angry.” Yes. That is true. We do swear when we’re angry. But swearing is shouting SHIT or FUCK. Racial slurs ARE NOT swears and the fact that people equate them is disappointing. If that’s where you go in “the heat of the moment” when you’re angry or frustrated, it means you are far too comfortable with that word.

Keep in mind that a lot of these notions of rednecks/hicks/lower-class white folk being racist is often not-so-thinly veiled classism, which is a tool rich white people use to divert attention from the systems they control. While many low-income southern white people are racist and it needs to be addressed, there is no reason why they in particular should be singled out among all classes of white people.

i have never in my entire life seen the dead body of a white person on the news. ever. not even once. but every time a black or brown person dies we are gratuitously shown images of their lifeless bodies, videos of them dying, their families crying over their bodies to the point where i’m unaffected by these images anymore. afford black and brown bodies the same respect you give white ones and stop sharing these videos and images that achieve nothing but the normalisation of black and brown suffering.

This “we’re no better than them” mentality makes the critical mistake that hate itself is the problem.
Hate is not the problem. At all. Hate can be constructive. Hate can be defensive and come from righteous outrage.
The problem is irrational hate towards innocent people.
Hating a racist is COMPLETELY fucking different from hating a race. A whole race didn’t do anything wrong. A racist did. Hating the racist is 100% proportionate, justifiable retaliation.

The reason that hate groups like the Klan have been driven so near to extinction is because of this exact thing. It became unfashionable to be publicly racist, and the backlash against those kinds of groups became unbearable for them. It drove them out of the limelight and into the very fringes of society.
This postmodern “hating the hate makes you just as bad” bullshit is what’s allowing them to re-prosper.
